Pool Blind Crash
Der Titel der Ausstellung ist in gewissem Sinne auch das Programm, respektive ein Ausschnitt aus dem breiten Spektrum des Künstlers. Seine Motive sind weit gefächert: Prägnante Symbole aus der heutigen Alltagskultur, mit einem deutlichen Einfluss aus Amerika. Comics, Werbeplakate, Plattencover oder anderes Bildmaterial, vor allem aber zahlreiche filmische Referenzen - besonders aus Horrorfilmen - dienen ihm als Vorlagen, die von Bedrohung und Gefahr erzählen.

Die Motive werden oft testweise erst als kleine Tafeln in Öl oder Aquarelle komponiert und gefertigt und dann erst nach mehrfachen Auswahlprozessen in die reale Maßstäblichkeit in große Formate übertragen. Die Technik des Aquarells mit ihren typischen Farbverläufen wird auch hier plakativ angewendet. Aber nicht nur die fließende Farbmalerei, sondern auch eine extreme Schärfe im Detail gehören zum Spektrum seiner Arbeitsweise, wobei manche Details karikaturhaft vereinfacht sind.

Das Mädchen am Pool, die Schwimmerin, die Fingermalereien auf beschlagenen Glasscheiben, alles gerade fertig gewordene Arbeiten, bilden den Kern der Ausstellung, übrigens die erste Einzelausstellung des Künstlers in der Galerie Sima.

Markus Willeke wurde 1971 in Recklinghausen geboren. Er hat an der Kunstakademie Münster studiert und lebt heute in Berlin.

 

Pool Blind Crash
The title of the exhibition is, in a sense, the program, or a section from the broad spectrum of the artist. His motifs are wide: Concise symbols from today's everyday culture, with a clear influence of America. Comics, advertising posters, cover plates, or other pictorial material, but above all numerous cinematic references, especially to horror films, serve as templates for menace and danger.

The motifs are often first tested and composed as small panels in oil or watercolors in a multiple selection process, and then transferred to the real scale on large screens. The technique of the watercolor with all the inevitably created color sequences is used here also very strikingly. But not only the highly liquefied color painting, but also the extreme sharpness in detail belongs to the spectrum of its workings. Some of the details are simplified.

The girl at the pool, the swimmer and the finger paintings on fogged glass panes, all the pieces just finished yet, form the scaffolding of the exhibition. It is the first solo exhibition of the artist in the sima gallery.

Markus Willeke was born in 1971 in Recklinghausen. He studied at the Kunstakademie Münster and now lives in Berlin.
